About COMPEL
We believe God is calling His church to revival and reformation, and God-led centers of evangelism are a part of preparing the church and the world to meet Jesus again soon.
How did COMPEL Develop?
It all began with a dream and vision given by God to lay members in the Mountain View Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. It was asked of the members what they would like to see, and one dream was a place where people could be trained thoroughly to share their faith effectively. As prayers went up for God to work in keeping the Mountain View Conference alive, He began to work in a very clear manner, revealing the answer to the prayers of the lay members and leadership. What began to form was something bigger than they ever expected – a center for evangelistic training. A place where people could experience revival, and also learn how to share their faith – not just in theory. A place where hope and faith become a reality, and lives are changed – forever.
Why the Name COMPEL?
In Luke 14:16 – 24 Jesus tells a parable about a servant who was told by his master to go and invite the people (who had previously been invited) to come to his feast, for everything was ready. He went to re-invite them, but they made excuses as to why they would not and could not come. Next the master told him to “go quickly into the streets and lanes of the city” and invite people to come in. Not too long after the the servant came back and said, “I did what you asked of me, and there is still room.” With even more urgency the master gave the last call: “Go into the highways and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.”
Get the picture in your mind. A faithful servant going into the world around him to “preach the gospel”, giving the invitation to come and partake of the Bread of Life and “take the Water of Life freely.” He processes through one group, and then the next, and finally he goes to the “ends of the earth”, reaching the last group before the extended invitation was no longer available. “For I say unto you, that none of those that were bidden shall taste of my supper.” And one other thing; the servant has no fear. He will go whenever and wherever his Master sends him.
Many people, who have a desire to share their faith and win souls for God’s kingdom never have the experience because of one immobilizing element: fear. At COMPEL you will be able to confront your fears and overcome them as you are trained, equipped, and mentored to go in confidence to share what you have learned. Never again will you need to fear. What are you waiting for? It is time to step into the waters and watch God work.
We believe we are living in the hour when the urgency of Jesus’ appeal should be revealed in the lives of His servants; servants who have experienced His love and are now compelled by that love to go and share their relationship intelligently and practically – from the heart – to compel others to accept the gospel in the last moments of time is the motive and the mission of the church; the great desire of the Master of the feast.
This is what COMPEL is all about. Fulfilling the gospel commission specifically given to us, before Jesus comes, to “compel them to come in, that MY house may be filled.”
Our Greatest Desire
One thing you will notice about the servant is his constant connection and faithfulness to his master. At COMPEL it is our greatest desire to lead people into a deeper, consistent relationship with Jesus. We know that this is the most important aspect of our witness; it is the desire of Jesus’ heart. In John 17:3 Jesus expresses His longing for humanity with these words: “And this is eternal life, that they might know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.” – John 17:3.
“As witnesses for Christ, we are to tell what we know, what we ourselves have seen and heard and felt. If we have been following Jesus step by step, we shall have something right to the point to tell concerning the way in which He has led us. We can tell how we have tested His promise, and found the promise true. We can bear witness to what we have known of the grace of Christ. This is the witness for which our Lord calls, and for want of which the world is perishing.” – The Desire of Ages, p. 34.
“God cannot display the knowledge of His will and the wonders of His grace among the unbelieving world, unless He has witnesses scattered all over the earth. It is His plan that those who are partakers of this great salvation through Jesus Christ, should be His missionaries, bodies of light throughout the world, to be as signs to the people, living epistles, known and read of all men, their faith and works testifying to the near approach of the coming Saviour, and showing that they have not received the grace of God in vain.” – Testimonies, vol. 2, pp. 631, 632.
This is why COMPEL has been established. This is why we exist. Do you want a deeper relationship with Jesus? Do you want to powerfully and effectively share your faith? Do you want an experience with God in a short period of time that will prepare you to be a missionary, a body of light throughout the world, a sign to the people around you, a living epistle? Then come to COMPEL.
